The Issue

The citizens of Owensboro-Daviess County, Kentucky, are deeply concerned about the potential adverse effects of data centers being established in our community. We take great pride in our beautiful local environment, thriving wildlife, and vibrant neighborhoods. However, the introduction of data centers poses significant risks to these precious community elements that we cherish dearly.

Data centers, by their nature, demand vast amounts of electricity and water, leading to increased strain on our local utilities. This not only threatens the availability of these crucial resources for residents but also poses the risk of increased bills and possible shortages. Furthermore, the environmental impact cannot be understated. These facilities emit large amounts of heat and noise, which can disrupt local wildlife habitats and lower the quality of life for residents.

Property values are a concern as well. Numerous studies have highlighted the negative impact on property prices in areas adjacent to data centers. Reduced property values affect homeowners' investments and the economic health of the community overall.

These are concerns echoed by many communities who have experienced similar developments. A survey conducted by the American Planning Association found that communities hosting large-scale data centers often face the issues we fear, including decreasing real estate values and increased environmental stress.

While technology and connectivity are important, placing these centers in proximity to residential areas is not the ideal solution. We propose that alternative locations, away from our neighborhoods, be considered. Such an approach would still achieve technological progress while preserving the health and prosperity of Owensboro-Daviess County.

We urge local policymakers and planning authorities to hear our concerns and work toward a resolution that maintains the integrity of our community. Sign this petition to safeguard our homes, environment, and quality of life from the potential harm of data centers.
