Stop data centers from being built near homes in Newton County, GA
The Issue
We, the undersigned, believe that large industrial facilities—such as data centers—should not be placed near homes without full, independent review of their long-term impacts. These projects can bring significant noise, energy demand, water use during extreme heat, and permanent changes to neighborhoods.
We call for responsible planning, full transparency, and proper zoning so that high-impact facilities are located in appropriate industrial areas—not beside residential communities—until the public has clear information and a real say in the decision.
While data centers are essential to technological progress, their placement requires careful planning. In Newton County, Georgia, there is a growing concern as these facilities are being proposed near residential areas. When data centers are constructed close to homes, they can produce continuous noise, high energy demand, substantial water usage, and increased heavy traffic. These impacts fall directly on families and established neighborhoods, disrupting the serene environment people have worked hard to build and maintain.
Families living in these affected areas are at risk of decreased property values, increased noise pollution, and disrupted local infrastructure. Moreover, the heavy energy and water demands of data centers can strain local resources, leading to environmental concerns and additional costs for local governments and taxpayers. The increase in heavy vehicular traffic due to data center operations poses safety risks and could deteriorate the quality of roads.
For these reasons, it is critical to reconsider the placement of these structures. We urge local authorities and planning committees to implement zoning regulations that position data centers at a safe distance from residential communities. By doing so, we can continue to support technological advancements without compromising the health, safety, and peace of local residents.
Please sign this petition to request action from our local government and ensure that data centers are sited responsibly in Newton County, protecting both our neighborhoods and our natural resources.
