The Issue

No data centers anywhere... no, no, no, no, no, no, no! This is an urgent call to everyone who values their community, natural resources, and local integrity. Data centers are invading our neighborhoods, and it is time to put a stop to it. They bring more harm than good, serving as hubs for profit-driven corporations that are exploiting our lands without giving back anything meaningful in return.

These massive facilities consume an unprecedented amount of energy, contributing significantly to water wastage and environmental degradation. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers are responsible for about 2% of the total electricity use in the United States, equivalent to roughly 34 large coal-powered power stations. In places like Virginia, referred to as 'the data center capital of the world,' the adverse impacts are visible and alarming. Communities report sharp increases in energy demand, leading to inflated bills for local residents.

Beyond the environmental toll, data centers are notorious for being low in employment opportunities, providing minimal jobs compared to the space and resources they consume. Imagine acres of beautiful land, once home to wildlife and greenery, replaced with monotonous, hulking concrete structures.

But the corruption runs deeper. Local governments are offering generous tax incentives to these conglomerates, diverting funds from critical public services such as education, infrastructure, and healthcare. Public debate is stifled, and often, citizens remain unaware until construction has taken root.

We need solutions that prioritize sustainable growth, such as investing in clean energy alternatives and promoting local businesses that truly benefit our town's character and economy. Foster innovation in tech that respects our environment, not exploits it.

If you care about the health and welfare of your community, I urge you to take action. Demand transparency, demand responsibility, and demand an end to the unchecked growth of data centers in our towns. Sign this petition today and join the movement to protect our neighborhoods from these corporate giants. Together, we can make a difference.
