Stop Data Center at Former Landover Mall Site

Stop Data Center at Former Landover Mall Site
The Issue
The residents of Landover, MD are being blindsided by the opening of a Data Center at the former Landover Mall site. The decision was made with minimal transparency, as Prince George's County has not adequately informed or engaged with the community prior to granting final approval for this significant development.
The old Landover Mall site holds a special place in our community's history and hearts. Turning it into a massive data center complex will not only disrupt the visual landscape of our neighborhood but also bring along potential environmental and socio-economic impacts that the residents were never consulted about. Concerns such as increased noise pollution, the strain on local infrastructure, and the potential for decreased property values are real and should have been discussed before any decision was finalized.
Data centers, while necessary in a digital age, are industrial facilities that demand substantial electrical power and cooling resources. They can also lead to significant increases in light and heat pollution, adversely affecting the local environment and quality of life. Given these impacts, it's imperative that the community has a voice in such significant changes to our neighborhood.
Prince George's County must adhere to transparent processes and prioritize community engagement in local developments. Our right to be informed and to have a say in our living spaces must be respected. The approval of the Data Center without proper community consultation is unacceptable and must be revisited.
Join us in urging Lerner Enterprises and Prince George's County to halt the construction plans and open a platform for meaningful engagement with Landover residents. Sign this petition to demand transparency, accountability, and respect for our community's wishes before proceeding with any further development on the former Landover Mall site. Stand with us to protect our neighborhood's integrity and to ensure that our voices are heard in shaping its future. Please sign this petition today.
