STOP CUTTING DOWN OLD HEALTHY TREES IN NIAGARA ON THE LAKE

STOP CUTTING DOWN OLD HEALTHY TREES IN NIAGARA ON THE LAKE

The Issue

NOTL Town Council is considering allowing the destruction of eight beautiful healthy 60-year-old trees (6 Silver Maples, 1 English Walnut and 1 Honey Locust - circled in the picture below), at 474 Simcoe st., Niagara on the Lake solely to allow the building of two new oversized houses.

The trees create a significant shade canopy in Old Town and should be protected under the Towns Official Plan which calls for “no unnecessary removal of trees”. Trees serve a valuable purpose in mitigating climate change as demonstrated by the Town seeking donations to plant new trees - all the while simultaneously considering destruction of 8 healthy 60-year-old trees. This matter affects all NOTL residents. Allowing this destruction to occur sets a dangerous precedent, paving the way for other healthy trees to be sacrificed to corporate greed

Look around the town and see how many trees have already been destroyed for development.

Please do not let developer profit overpower our need and responsibility to preserve mature beautiful trees in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Please sign the petition to tell Council to fulfill its mandate under its Official Plan and save these trees (Towns file ZBA-19-2023). Please circulate this petition to as many  who will share your concerns.
