News alertStop Cuts to Secondary Music Education in CamasA Message from Superintendent Anzalone

May 16, 2025

Dear Camas Community,

We deeply understand and appreciate the passion our community holds for music education. The recent reduction of one full-time equivalent (FTE) position in our secondary music program has understandably caused concern.

This decision is part of the largest budget reduction in our district’s history, affecting every level of our system. In total, we have reduced approximately 36 teacher FTEs across multiple subject areas and grade levels, not just music. Our administrative team absorbed the most significant proportional cut at 29%. While this doesn’t make the impact on music any easier, it’s important to know that no single program was targeted. Difficult decisions were made based on factors like declining enrollment and class size, not program preference.

These reductions have been heartbreaking. We are a community that values the arts and remains committed to providing music opportunities for students, even with fewer resources.

We invite you to learn more about the broader context and our approach to budget realignment by visiting Our 2025-26 Budget Realignment webpage.

Warm regards,

John
