Canada does a poor job of protecting animals in custody. This has been specially found at Marineland locations. They fail to comply with orders regarding the captivity of different animals; from this, animals suffer. There are endless numbers of articles and proof of this cruelty. One recurring story is about Kiska, Canada's last captive killer whale. Kiska was used to perform shows where she was forced to do different tricks. She was kept in a tank too small for her, and as she got older and stopped performing, she was mistreated. There is drone footage from two weeks prior to her death that shows her in an uncomfortably small habitat and she looked distressed. She died in March 2023. Since then there have been countless numbers of deaths with their walruses and an unknown number of beluga whales. 

Marineland has been charged with many, many different counts of mistreatment of animals and illegal use of animals in shows. Somehow they continue to dismiss these charges. Change needs to start to happen or the lives of more animals are at risk. There have already been two deaths this year which is two too many. 

More laws regarding the captivity of animals would be helpful as right now there aren't enough boundaries when it comes to the process of getting new animals and caring for them. That could be why Marineland has an insane amount of animals that they can't seem to sufficiently care for. 

Performances need to stop. Marineland continues to run performances even though there is a notional ban preventing dolphins from doing so. These performances leave animals in distress and can cause them to have a shorter lifespan. 

It is important to take action immediately as there are animals that are struggling and the changes I stated above save them in the long run. Signing this petition can support these animals so no more are hurt, or worse.
