The Issue

Back story: CPA Ontario and Quebec has decided to sever from CPA Canada. This decision was made in closed door without any consultation or vote from its thousands of members. While CPA Ontario has been negotiating for 5 years, yet at no point of time any one of its members was aware of this decision. Once CPA Ontario made their decision on June 2023, they simply emailed the members that the decision is final and in 18 months they will transition to an independent body.

What's at stake? All the CPA members in Ontario and Quebec are at stake. We have recently unified three accreditations CA, CMA and CGA, and now in very short years we cannot be separating by geographical jurisdictions!! We need CPA Canada to provide oversight and set guidance for the provincial bodies and represent CPA in the international stage.

Board of CPA Ontario cannot make this important decision without any consultation of all the members. Moreover, CPA Ontario has not given any specific reason why they were compelled to make this decision.

Call to Action:  We request that CPA Ontario reverse its decision to sever ties with CPA Canada and go back to discussion with CPA Canada and keep the CPA designation unified in Canada.
