Stop Cosmetic Animal Testing

The Issue

Scientists and researchers perform several invasive tests on rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, and rats during the production of cosmetics to establish product safety. These can include skin and eye irritation tests, tests that deliver doses of chemical substances to mice through repeated force-feeding, or widely condemned "lethal dose" tests, in which scientists force rats to swallow large amounts of chemicals to determine the dose that causes death. These tests lead to animals suffering immense pain, distress, blindness, swollen eyes, sore and bleeding skin, internal bleeding, organ damage, birth defects, convulsions, and even death. At the end of the tests, the animals are killed, usually by asphyxiation, neck-breaking, or decapitation. The scientists do not provide the animals with pain relief throughout the process.

Most experiments on animals are not required by government law or regulation, especially when it comes to cosmetics. However, government agencies require certain animal tests to assess the safety of products such as industrial chemicals, pesticides, medical devices, and medicines. According to PETA, animal testing has several alternatives, including in vitro (outside the body) testing using human cells, computer (in Silico) Modeling, research with human volunteers, and human-patient simulators. That means we do not need to harm the animals! Sign the petition to pressure big-name cosmetic brands to stop using animal testing!
