Stop Corporate and Private Interests! Rezone the DPI!

Stop Corporate and Private Interests! Rezone the DPI!
The Issue
Alpena, a peaceful lakefront community characterized by its rich history and natural beauty, has a singular opportunity to reclaim a significant piece of the city's shoreline. With DPI's decision to close its doors, Alpena is uniquely positioned to learn from the past and rezone this area for better use.
Alarmingly, and in open disregard of the overwhelming community support for this rezoning, some City Council members are actively overreaching and voting in opposition.
Stand with us and call upon the Alpena City Council to rezone the DPI area from the heavy industrialized zoning of I2, to WD Waterfront District or I1. WD or I1 designation is better suited for smaller businesses that can offer job opportunities, a varied mix of residential options, and an increase in our aesthetic appeal especially along precious shoreline. Refreshingly, this rezoning would bring a wave of local entrepreneurship that could revitalize our economy and retail landscape. It would also mean significantly less environmental strain, helping us avoid the environmentally damaging practices of our industrial past. Therefore, we encourage members of our community, as well as others who care about maintaining small town ambiance and preserving the environment, to support this petition. Signing this means standing up against large-scale industrialization and favoring a new, vibrant chapter for Alpena. Let's work together for sustainable economic and environmental progress.
