Stop Cop City Atlanta!!
The Issue
The people of Atalanta have been heard across the nation after recent protests to Cop City turned deadly. Manuel “Tortuguita” Teràn was FATALLY SHOT during protests against “Cop City” that have been ongoing for weeks. The proposed project lays 300 ACRES of forest to waste to build a mock city for police training purposes. The biggest, immediate implication is ENVIRONMENTAL. However, this facility will be built at the center of a predominantly BLACK/MINORITY community in Atalanta. The long term fears and impacts of this facility will undoubtedly translate to OVER POLICING of MINORITIES. This development’s impact is not just one fold, but impacts already vulnerable things - our planet, our people.
IF NO ACTION IS TAKEN, we lose the largest metropolitan tree canopy in the US, worsen the climate crisis, enable policing similar to military tactics, and further expose minorities to police brutality.
This “city” will allow law enforcement to practice urban warfare, test explosives, and much more. Why do police need a 300 acre fake training city, if not to specialize CIVILIAN ATTACKS?
The people behind the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center project are the Atlanta Police Foundation and the City of Atlanta, despite overwhelming community concern. The project estimates to cost 90 MILLION dollars, with a portion coming from donations but a large burden is also expected to be shouldered by the TAXPAYERS.
This land is Native Muscogee Creek Tribal land. It is the former site of the “Old Atlanta Prison Farm.” It is in the Weelaunee Forest, the largest percentage of trees in any metropolitan American area. The land should be conserved at minimum, if not returned to the NATIVE people.
Help spread the word and hopefully stop this monstrosity “Cop City” from being constructed on forest land!!! The climate crisis is urgent. The risks posed to minorities are urgent.
