19 JANUARY 2018 UA 71 - Amsterdam/Newark B767-300 - Registration: N644UA ‘Passengers Reported a bad odour making them feel sick, others reported lack of oxygen’. The aircraft returned to Amsterdam. (The landing was too hard, a tyre burst and a small fire in the landing gear was extinguished by emergency services). Passengers and crew were checked by medics on arrival back at Amsterdam. The airline has said it was probably flu or food poisoning! On 26 NOVEMBER a similar incident occurred: UA 31 from Munich to Newark Boeing 767-300 - Registration: N653UA The aircraft returned to Munich after numerous passengers & Crew Reported feeling nauseous and suffering headaches. Some were taken to hospital. There is no further information from the November incident as to what made the passengers and crew so ill but no doubt that aircraft is back in service. You would think that the incident yesterday would prompt the Regulator - in this case the FAA, to begin enquiries, but it won’t. What we have is a TRIANGLE OF COLLUSION - Airlines, Regulators & Governments who all look after each other’s interests (financial). They pretend to care about passengers and crew - but the reality is that money comes before health and well-being. They continue to hide behind flawed studies into cabin air whilst the numbers of injuries continue to grow. It’s an issue that has been known since the 1960’s and could be stopped by fitting sensors and filters to all bleed air aircraft. AND THE BILLION DOLLAR QUESTION IS - Why don’t they just fit the SENSORS AND FILTERS? The answer is - Fear of Litigation. Photo - AeroInside.
