Stop construction of data centers in our community
The Issue
As a resident of our cherished community, I am deeply concerned about the planned construction of data centers in our area. This development not only threatens the environmental balance but also poses significant health risks to our families, impacts the value of our properties, and compromises the quality of life we have worked so hard to build.
Data centers consume enormous amounts of energy and water resources. According to research by the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers contribute to 2% of the total electricity consumption in the United States, more than many other sectors. Water sourced for cooling these facilities may lead to depletion of local water supplies already strained. Without a doubt, this will worsen our natural environment.
Moreover, data centers generate substantial waste heat, which exacerbates air pollution. The emission of pollutants can increase rates of respiratory illnesses, particularly for our children and elderly populations who are most vulnerable to environmental changes. Our community deserves clean air and a safe living environment.
The presence of such massive industrial structures can also harm the local real estate market by devaluing surrounding homes. Our neighborhood’s charm and appeal is at risk, impacting not just our financial investment but also the integrity and cohesion of our community spirit.
Let’s push for sustainable alternatives. We urge local government officials and city planners to consider renewable energy and decentralized data solutions that do not sacrifice our well-being and local ecosystem.
Join us in preventing this threat to our environment, homes, and health. By signing this petition, you stand with our community in demanding a better future for us all. Let’s protect what truly matters.
