The Issue

We are local residents who strongly oppose the construction of a pump track at either Homefield Park or Manor Park Meadow, or other precious green spaces in Histon & Impington, Cambridge, UK.

Please sign this petition to support Histon and Impington Locals for the Environment (HILFE) to:

Stop the destruction of our precious village green spaces. Building a sports facility on top of Homefield Park or Manor Park Meadow will irreversibly damage two of the most wildlife rich, biodiverse spaces in the village and destroy their much-loved tranquil character

Strengthen and renew the legal protections for our precious green spaces. We cannot allow legal protections to simply be sidestepped when deemed inconvenient to developers.

Establish a pump track for all at the Rec or adjacent grounds. A pump track could be a wonderful addition to our village – and the facility rich & underused Recreation ground is the obvious and perfect site.

Update Oct 25: The plan to proceed with feasibility studies and designs for a pump track on Homefield Park and Manor Park Meadow have been delayed. Details are currently sketchy but the Parish Council is setting up a new working group to look afresh at where to site a Pump Track in the village. However, both sites remain in grave danger from development. And other green sites in the village - such as the Crossing Keeper’s copse - may also now be under consideration for developers.

We are concerned local residents who have united in their views and formed a group named Histon and Impington Locals for the Environment (HILFE) to take action and protect our precious green spaces that are under grave threat of construction of a Pump Track/Skate Park sporting facility due to pressure and actions from HI Pump Track Charity. We believe other sites in the village (eg, the Recreation Ground) are not being seriously considered.

We call on the Parish Council to respect the existing protections, environment and character of our beloved green spaces and abandon any divisive plans for feasibility studies and pump track designs for Homefield Park and Manor Park Meadow. Both are completely inappropriate locations for a new sporting facility in the village. Building a pump track on top of either site would irreversibly damage their wildlife-rich biodiverse nature and destroy their peaceful tranquil character.  A feasibility study is not needed to tell us that either site has the facilities to support a pump track with community wide appeal. Instead, focus on respecting and bolstering the existing green space legal protections and develop a pump track for the entire community at the underutilised, facility rich and perfectly suited Recreation Ground
