The Issue

Living within a few hundred yards of the proposed data center site has put me in a position of great concern. The tranquility, safety, and environment of our neighborhood are at risk if the construction of this data center goes ahead. Our community, characterized by family homes, and stands to be dramatically altered by the influx of industrial development.

Data centers are known for several environmental downsides: excessive energy usage, significant water consumption, and increased noise levels. According to data from the Uptime Institute, data centers can use up to 3% of the global electricity supply. The water usage required for cooling purposes can also strain local resources, especially during times of drought. Additionally, the noise from cooling systems and backup generators could disrupt the peaceful nature of our neighborhood, affecting the quality of life and property values.

Furthermore, the proposed site could pose safety hazards. Alongside the environmental concerns

We acknowledge the increasing need for digital infrastructure, but strongly believe that such facilities should be strategically placed in areas where they are less disruptive to people and the environment. We advocate for the exploration of alternative sites.

We call on the local council and planning authorities to reconsider the approval of this data center. We ask them to prioritize the well-being of the residents.
