Whether you're a homeowner, condo or townhouse owner in the South Surrey area, this petition is for you - because it directly affects YOU!

We have absolutely nothing against townhouses or high-density dwellings, provided that they are built in communities that require it or where it fits in with the existing community landscape - HOWEVER, we do have a problem with these proposals when the proposal does not serve the best interest of the community!

Ask yourself the following:

• WHO ARE THESE DEVELOPMENTS TRULY DESIGNED TO HELP? DEVELOPERS AND THEIR DEEP POCKETS$$$$?

 

• WHY DO WE NOT HAVE MORE SAY OVER OUR HARD EARNED INVESTMENTS AND SENSE OF COMMUNITY?

 

• WHY SHOULD WE LET DEVELOPERS GET RICH AND WALK ALL OVER US WHILE WE DO NOTHING BUT LOSE, LOSE, LOSE!

 

• WE LOSE SIGNIFICANT VALUE IN OUR PROPERTIES AND INVESTMENTS, WE LOSE THE QUIET STREETS WHERE OUR KIDS WANT TO PLAY, WE LOSE WALKABILITY, WE LOSE PRIVACY.

 

• BEYOND THIS - THE LOCAL ECOSYSTEMS LOSES THEIR ABILITY TO SIMPLY EXIST - THE LEVEL OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION IN THIS AREA IS ABSOLUTELY ALARMING. IF APPROVED, THIS DEVELOPMENT WOULD ABSOLUTELY DESTROY A BEAUTIFUL HEALTHY GREEN SPACE HOME TO COUNTLESS ANIMALS, BIRDS, TREES AND MORE.

 

• THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD AND VALUED! SIGNING THIS PETITION WILL SEND A CLEAR AND COLLECTIVE MESSAGE BECAUSE IN SOME WAY OR ANOTHER THIS AFFECTS YOU (WHETHER YOU LIVE RIGHT HERE OR NOT!)... BECAUSE TOMORROW ANY DEVELOPER COULD ACQUIRE AN OLD HOUSE, FARM OR POCKET OF LAND RIGHT NEAR YOU - AND SUDDENLY YOUR LITTLE COMMUNITY IS NEXT!

THE CITY IS WELL AWARE THAT THE AREA IS OVERLY CONGESTED AND SERVICES NEED SIGNIFICANT UPGRADES IN ORDER TO CATCH UP WITH THE POPULATION.

THE CITY SHOULD NOT BE SOLELY SUPPORTING THE INTERESTS OF DEVELOPERS BY CONSTANTLY PROPOSING RE-ZONINGS AND ADDING TO THE PROBLEM, INSTEAD OF WORKING ON A SOLUTION.

YOU CAN'T EVEN DRIVE A BLOCK IN THIS AREA ANYMORE WITHOUT SEEING ANOTHER BOARD FOR YET ANOTHER DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL. IT'S OVERWHELMING AND MAKES NO SENSE ESPECIALLY WHEN:

- ROADS, CONGESTION AND TRAFFIC ARE OUT OF CONTROL.

- MEDICAL SERVICES ARE AT BREAKING POINT. 

- WOMEN WHO PRESENT AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL ARE BEING CONSTANTLY DIVERTED TO OTHER MUNICIPALITIES (EVEN WHILST IN ACTIVE LABOUR!)

- LOCAL SCHOOLS (ONE THAT ONLY OPENED IT'S DOORS ONLY A YEAR AGO) IS ALREADY SO BEYOND MAX CAPACITY THAT OUR KIDS ARE BEING PUT IN PORTABLES AND WON'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN IN A PERMANENT CLASSROOM.

Townhouse and condo owners in this area, yes this affect you too! Over supply of units = downward affect on your property prices. 

This area is quiet, friendly, family-focused with so many young kids and families thriving as a tight-knit community. Drive by and you'll find active kids running around outside together whilst their parents gather and share a laugh.

This proposal is not appropriate or considerate of the residents that have built their lives here and have been told for years by the city that this green space would either develop into a park or homes that flow with everything that is already built-up around it.

Almost 200 townhouses being dropped in the middle of family homes is not okay - it means our kids will be cooped up inside, in front of a TV or device - because their once quiet street is now a major thoroughfare and no longer safe to play on.

It means we can't gather on the street and share a laugh at the end of the day, because it'll be too loud to even hear each other over the new noise pollution!

It means an entire ecosystem gets teared down and countless lives are impacted all just to fill another developers pockets again!

Well, we've had enough and we're not going away.

There are high-density townhouses all across South Surrey, if you walk around 1.5 km from 18 Ave to 24 Ave (which is only about a 15 min linear walk - but to put it into context - this isn't even taking into account the thousands of pre-existing townhouses that you would find if you sat down and searched the entire area or within an actual radius) and you will see over 1,500 pre-existing townhouses alone - this doesn't include condos or newer developments (for which there are signs on every second street). There is absolutely no rationale for adding to this number. 

This petition is specifically setup (but NOT limited to - as signing this petition will send a clear message to the city as a whole!) to oppose the proposed 171 unit townhouse project on 20 Ave, running between 21 Ave, 166 St, 20A Ave and 167A Street/Edgewood Drive. Project NO: 7922-0149-00. 

Let's come together as a community and SAY NO to re-zoning from "low-density residential" to more high-density, concrete jungle style eye-sores being constructed in our backyards and destroying our communities!
