Stop Commercial Rezoning Near Chalamont!

Stop Commercial Rezoning Near Chalamont!
The Issue
The proposed re-zoning of land near our subdivision, at the corner of Chalamont Drive and Cantrell Road in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a decision that carries significant risks for our community. This area is home to Joe T. Robinson elementary, middle, and high schools, where traffic congestion is already a critical issue.
The tragic death of our beloved Officer Montgomery assigned to traffic control in this area is a harsh reminder of the dangers posed by speeding and dense traffic. Imagine this one-quarter mile stretch becoming even more perilous with additional commercial development feeding more vehicles into an already overcrowded system. As a community, we have seen first-hand the challenges of navigating this area safely, especially during school hours.
Re-zoning this land to accommodate commercial interests will only exacerbate existing problems, threatening the safety of our children, families, and the officers who bravely serve to make our roads safer. Studies indicate that increased commercial development near schools can lead to higher traffic volumes and heightened accident risks, posing significant threats to student safety.
For the well-being of our community, we must oppose this rezoning initiative. By maintaining the current zoning, we protect our families, endorse smart and safe growth, and preserve the integrity of our neighborhood. Commercial developments are essential, but they must be strategically located to ensure they do not compromise community safety.
We urge Little Rock city planners and officials to reconsider the negative ramifications of this proposal. Our community's safety and the sanctity of our schools should take precedence over commercial interests.
Please stand with us in opposing this rezoning plan. Sign this petition to make our voices heard and protect the safety and integrity of our neighborhood.
