Petition updateStop Climbing From Being Banned in the GrampiansThe Future of Climbing in Gariwerd/Grampians
Grampians Access Working Group
Jan 19, 2021

Parks Victoria has released a draft plan of management for Gariwerd/Grampians that is now in the final days where feedback is possible. While the plan has many good aspects, the draft is very bad for climbers, with 80% of roped climbing banned and virtually all bouldering banned.

We believe that if the knowledge and expertise of climbers is actually used by Parks Victoria to take a more granular approach to managing climbing, then it can continue in a way that still protects the cultural and environmental values of Gariwerd.

There are now just five days left to respond to this draft – the period for feedback closes on Sunday 24 January, 2021.

You can read an article here that outlines the problems with the draft and suggests solutions. The article also suggests ways that you can take action, either by submitting feedback to Parks Victoria directly or by signing onto an excellent submission that we recommend. It's really important that Parks Victoria understands that the Grampians is an important destination for many climbers.

Thanks for your support so far, and we'd love it if you took the time to ensure that we all can continue to climb respectfully in the very special place that is Gariwerd.
