Chiltern Railways is planning to move the only direct morning service from King’s Sutton to London that gets commuters into the city before 9am.

The current 06:41 train arrives in London in just over an hour. It is the only realistic option for commuters working standard office hours.

Chiltern now plans to move this service to 06:19 and lengthen the journey to 1 hour 23 minutes — making our day significantly longer for no benefit.

Why this matters

This change will have serious impacts on King’s Sutton and surrounding village residents:

• A 05:00 wake-up time just to reach a 9am office start.
• A commute that increases by almost 30% in duration.
• The earliest return train outside office hours being 19:06, creating excessively long days away from home.
• The next available service with one change gets into London at 08:42, leaving not enough time to travel across London and reach workplaces by 9am.
• No reduction in ticket prices, despite a clear reduction in service quality.

This timetable change is unreasonable, impractical, and damaging to commuters’ wellbeing, productivity, and work–life balance. It will also discourage people from using public transport at a time when rail operators should be encouraging sustainable travel.

What we’re asking for

We urge Chiltern Railways to:

1. Keep the 06:41 departure
2. Maintain the current sub-60-minute journey, or
3. Provide an equivalent direct service that enables commuters to reach London in time for a 9am start without excessive travel times.
