Stop child protective services from unfairly targeting families of color

Stop child protective services from unfairly targeting families of color
The Issue
Moving into Munger Terrace in Duluth, MN, has completely upended my life. The residents here have used Bluetooth technology to invade my privacy and twist moments of my life into something sinister. Due to their baseless and malicious reports, my child was taken from me by Child Protective Services (CPS) under false pretenses. They arrived at my home, search warrant in hand, to forcefully remove my Native child during a homeschool session—all with the wrong name on the warrant.
Unfortunately, my story isn't unique. Families of color in Duluth and across Minnesota have increasingly faced unjust interventions by CPS. According to a 2020 report by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Native American children are nearly three times more likely to be removed from their homes compared to their white peers. These statistics are not merely numbers but represent real families enduring unnecessary trauma and separation.
This petition aims to demand a stop to these discriminatory practices. CPS must be held accountable for discriminatory practices. We call for the implementation of stringent checks to ensure that investigations are based on credible evidence and not fabricated claims. Additionally, cultural sensitivity training should be mandatory for social workers to prevent bias and ensure that all families are treated with dignity.
We urge the Minnesota government and local authorities in Duluth to conduct an independent review of CPS cases involving families of color. It's crucial to address and eliminate systemic racism to protect our communities.
Please sign this petition to ensure that no other child is unjustly ripped from their loving home due to baseless accusations. Let us stand together to fight for justice and equity for all families in Duluth and beyond.
