Currently, in many egg farms, chickens are kept in overcrowded cages, which leaves them with minimal space to move around, spread their wings, or engage in natural behaviors. Statistics from reputable sources indicate that over 90% of egg-laying hens in the U.S. are confined to 'battery cages', with an average space of less than an iPad per hen. This is completely unacceptable and violates fundamental animal welfare principles.

But change is possible. Some farms are beginning to adopt more humane practices such as cage-free or free-range systems, where chickens have more space and opportunities to express natural behaviors. Legislation can play a crucial role in enforcing these changes across the industry.

I am calling on lawmakers to introduce and support legislation that prohibits extreme confinement of chickens and mandates better living conditions. These measures could include mandating larger cage sizes, improved sanitation and ventilation, and regular health inspections.
