Stop Cherwell District Council from ruining North Oxfordshire

Stop Cherwell District Council from ruining North Oxfordshire
The Issue
North Oxfordshire is a unique and beautiful area with rolling green hills, rich history, and tight-knit communities. It is a place many of us are proud to call home. However, the very character of this region is under threat due to the Cherwell District Council's current approach to processing multiple major planning applications without a thorough assessment of their cumulative impact.
Five significant developments stand on the brink of approval: Heyford Park, the Oxfordshire Strategic Rail Freight Interchange, the Puy du Fou theme park, massive warehouses at Baynards Green, and a further housing development at Hawkwell Village.
These projects collectively threaten to change the landscape and quality of life as we know it, bringing about over 35 million traffic movements annually and introducing an estimated 60,000 new residents and people operating within a 3-mile radius.
This explosion in population and traffic will undeniably undermine the character of North Oxfordshire. Our local roads, already burdened, will struggle under the increased stress, leading to inevitable delays, accidents, and pollution. Our schools, healthcare facilities, and emergency services are unprepared for the sudden spike in demand, risking the welfare of current residents.
We do not oppose progress or development, but we demand it be carried out with care and consideration. The Cherwell District Council is failing in its duty to fully assess and publish the cumulative impact of these developments before any applications are approved. Such an assessment should consider the sustainability, environmental, and social impacts comprehensively.
We have asked that a Cumulative Impact Board is set up comprising of representatives from each of the developers, CDC, OCC and the main residents groups. As yet we have had no responses from CDC nor OCC.
By signing this petition, we are calling on the Cherwell District Council to halt the approval of these major planning applications until a complete and transparent assessment has been conducted and shared with the public.
Let us protect North Oxfordshire's unique character and ensure any future development respects and enhances our quality of life. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard and demand accountability from our council.
Please be sure to add your name, email address, address and full postcode otherwise Cherwell Council will not acknowledge your signature
