The incarcerated population frequently suffers at the hands of CDCR. The temperature is often used as a weapon to “weaken” their minds and “show them who has power”. It is cruel and unusual punishment. Myself and many other family members have reached out to staff in CDCR to address these issues but they are told the equipment is working fine and their temperature logs show an appropriate temp. This is not true according to many statements from inmates across different prisons and yards in CA. They are being denied ice/cold water, the air/AC is insufficient and some vents even have hot air blowing. I have been told by many people that their loved ones state in the summer they purposely blow out hot air, and in winter they turn on the AC. This is unacceptable and it’s time to demand change. Adrienne Boulware passed away a few days ago due to a heat stroke in a CDCR prison. NO MORE!!! One person is ONE TOO MANY!!!!

I want to see the following begin:

-Have inmates involved in the temperature recording process, escorted by a CO so there is still body cam footage of the recordings. The temperature should be checked not only in the day room but in the cells they spend 90% of their time 

-Allow inmates to open their doors more often and put more fans on the tiers and open their food slots to push in cool air 

-Provide them with ice water, and bring in additional igloos so everyone actually has a chance to get water (up to 200 inmates are in one building so one igloo is not sufficient)

-Send in an independent HVAC technician to check and make sure the AC is running correctly 

-Actually allow them to take additional showers

-Have nursing staff check on the inmates and provide electrolytes, with an acknowledgement sheet there they can sign they were actually checked on 

-Place thermometers in open view in the day room, and allow inmates to purchase their own thermometers again
