Just these past months, Egg Farmers of Canada broadcasted numerous advertisments by radio, tv, internet and billboards stating that their animals receive wonderful, high quality care and that animal welfare is a #1 priority.

Their website also boldly states this claim:http://www.eggfarmers.ca/what-we-do/animal-care

BUT THIS CANNOT POSSIBLY BE TRUE! That's because....

1. 90% of egg-laying hens in Canada are raised in battery cages, which are banned in Europe and the UK because of the inhumane conditions it forces chickens to endure (e.g. unable to spread wings, walk, preen, find personal space, dust bathe etc.).  Cages are the reason chickens have the tips of their beaks cut off.  If left uncut, chickens will peck at each other out of natural aggression (it's like saying "hey!, I'm the dominant hen, give me space"), creating injury.

2. Undercover videos demonstrate the conditions that egg-laying hens in Canada experience.  And it is not 'high quality animal welfare'.

Ever wonder why Egg Farmers of Canada only show videos of non-battery cage farms?

Because of this type of advertising, it is likely that people may buy even MORE EGGS, thus increasing the demand for more chickens to be placed in these windowless, poorly ventilated compounds known as "factory farms". Not only that, it slows down the already slow process of changing the welfare standards to meet the needs of the animals.  This is because as consumers relax, farmers also relax and less effort goes towards speeding up change in the system.

It's time that Egg Farmers of Canada come clean and not be allowed to advertise false claims THAT CAN TRICK PEOPLE INTO THINKING THAT EGG FARMING IS A WHOLESOME BUSINESS!!!
