I wanted to let you know that the board denied Richard Johnson’s parole for 5 years, and thank you for your help in making that happen.

It actually went so bad for him during the opening Q&A that he and his lawyer basically threw in the towel. Fortunately, the lead parole board officer was great.

We’re lucky that he’s never even tried to play the game of  taking responsibility and expressing proper remorse. Instead, he minimizes his role, acted as though an earlier Missouri murder was a drug deal gone bad (he raped and killed a woman in his apartment complex), had some prison infractions, and skipped his prison classes that are supposed to help fix him.

He can appeal for an earlier hearing down the road, as he has in the past without success. The prior 10 year denial was very very rare, and we didn’t expect that for someone who’s now 76, so this is about as good as we expected.

The petitions and letters were definitely noticed, and the hearing officer commented on them. The system just works better when people are paying attention.
