The Issue

Stop the ICE Detention Center in California City

CoreCivic, a private prison corporation, is planning to convert the California City Correctional Facility into an ICE detention center. This would directly harm immigrant families by expanding a system that thrives on detention, dehumanization, and family separation. Local residents would also be affected, relying on promises of economic growth that have already failed other communities.

This decision will shape the future of California City. In other towns where companies like CoreCivic have operated, local governments were left with debt, budget shortfalls, and broken promises. There is no evidence that private prisons bring lasting economic benefit. The only guaranteed outcome is more suffering for those detained and more risk for the communities that host these facilities.

We still have a chance to speak out. California City can choose a different path. We need real investment in housing, education, healthcare, and job training — not another facility that profits from locking people in cages. Now is the time to take a stand.

Join the Dolores Huerta Foundation and our community organizers to say NO to this detention facility.

Add your name and demand dignity, not detention.

Sign the petition to say no to CoreCivic and no to ICE detention in California City.
