FIGHT CORRUPTION- KEEP THE INTEGRITY OF THE INTEGRITY COMMISSION BILL

FIGHT CORRUPTION- KEEP THE INTEGRITY OF THE INTEGRITY COMMISSION BILL
The Issue
DEMAND BETTER GOVERNANCE OF OUR AFFAIRS
It is NEVER in the public interest to have contracts negotiated, signed and implemented in the dark.
TELL YOUR GOVERNMENT, TELL YOUR PARLIAMENT, TELL YOUR PRIME MINISTER - “DELETE CLAUSE 50(2)C”
Clause 50(2)c in the Integrity Commission Bill will empower the Cabinet to block investigations into contracts of their choosing and for those investigative reports to go ONLY to the Cabinet.
YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT!!
Immediate push back from the private sector and citizens, resulted in the Government agreeing to make “slight changes”. The Government did the right thing, BUT…this ‘right thing’ does not go far enough.
The Minister of Justice, MP Delroy Chuck says Cabinet’s choice to block the future investigations will still apply to contracts that deal with “international relations….as Cabinet should have the authority to say, “it’s not in the public interest that they be investigated”. This could for e.g. include contracts with the Chinese Government, among others.
NO! After 55 years of Independence we want transparency, scrutiny and probity.
TELL YOUR GOVERNMENT, TELL YOUR PARLIAMENT, TELL YOUR PRIME MINISTER. - “DELETE CLAUSE 50(2)C” and investigative reports must not go "ONLY TO THE CABINET". Like all other anti-corruption reports, they must go to the PEOPLE'S REPRESENTATIVES IN THE PARLIAMENT.
