Oxfordshire County Council are seeking to implement sweeping proposals to restrict travel using private motor vehicles throughout Oxford.

This petition is to vocally express that the proposed traffic filters specifically on Hollow Way and Marston Ferry Road should not go ahead.

The reasons for objecting are:

1. Hollow Way & Marston Ferry Road are outside of the centre of Oxford and provide a crucial link between districts of the city, including to the John Radcliffe Hospital via the Marston Ferry Road. These also provide access to major connecting roads to enter/leave Oxford.
2. These routes already have high quality, segregated cycle lane facilities and the proposal to block these roads to cars is therefore not of benefit of cyclists.
3. Very few bus routes utilise the Marston Ferry Road, and the proposed benefits to bus traffic have been overstated without evidence
4. These closure of these roads will lead to drivers needing to travel greater distances, increasing pollution, and congestion on ring roads (particularly at the Cutteslowe roundabout).
5. These bus gates will segregate wealthier communities (such as Summertown) from less wealthy parts of Oxford. This is a regressive step.
6. Cost of living crisis: Bus travel is much dearer than fuel costs, and entails a time cost in that there is frequently waiting for busses.
7. The negative effects of the filters fall disproportionately on those with caring responsibility, employment with irregular hours, and the vulnerable.
