On February 28th, STOP BURKE - LAKE JAMES MEGASITE was deemed a Non-Profit Organization by the State of North Carolina.
All proceeds are being contributed as charity for the preservation of this land and cover the following operational costs:
- Legal (Filing requirements and professional counsel)
- Accounting (Compliance, etc.)
- Advertising (Billboard signs and educational handouts)
- "Proposed" LOCATION is Exit 94 " Dysartsville Rd." North of Hwy.40 and only 3/4 mile from Lake James.
- This IS NOT the industrial site off of Kathy Road. The old abandoned Industrial Site there consumes 83 acres, and has been sitting there idle and ugly for 12 years.
- This "Proposed Megasite" plan would negatively affect more than 1,300 acres of land and much of the surrounding environment.
- Imagine this.... Asheville airport occupies 960 acres. This "Proposed Megasite" is 1,300 acres and that doesn't include the infrastructure.
- Muddy Creek and Catawba River flow through and along side this "Proposed Megasite".
- Directly and SERIOUSLY affecting Morganton water supply and 26 counties downstream all via the Catawba River.
- EV battery factories require 490,000 gallons of water to build only 132 EV lithium batteries. And NONE OF THEM are reusable or recyclable.
- The Southern Norfolk Railroad track will be extended to cater to the transportation of resources and goods for the Megasite such as Toxic Lithium resources for a battery factory.
- This encroaches on many homes.
- The amount of infrastructure would nearly equal the already 1,300 acre Land Grab. Major on and off ramps, widening of roads, utilities, etc...
- Hazardous Environmental Consequences "to our Land, Air, Soil, and Water.
- EV battery factories are SUPER HAZARDOUS working environment. A very high health risk environment to be around.
- WHAT IF EV FAILS ? What will happen to our economy in our communities?
- The BIG PLOY of this creating high paying jobs. They wont be paying $70K - $80K jobs to line workers. There is already a serious issue with EV anything with respects to "high cost" so they logically WILL NOT be paying line workers any kind of good money. That is a PLOY and a JOKE !
- This encourages Big Corporations (Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc.) to infringe on our local municipalities and many small businesses.
Major increase in road traffic, noise, and light pollution. - This "proposed megasite" will negatively affect our many Small Businesses throughout our counties many tourists vacation and visit Lake James for its beauty and personality.
- GOOD BYE Natures Playground....and GOOD BYE Tourism if this proposed Megasite happens. Which means GOOD BYE to many of the great small businesses and GOOD BYE to the roughly $48 million dollars tourism generates.
This petition and everyone who has signed on is what makes this cause worth fighting for. The proposed Megasite will negatively affect Lake James, the Catawba River, and ALL of this surrounding environment. And this would directly impact the water, rivers, air, and soil.
By signing this petition, you are NO for Re-Zoning this land for the "Great Meadows Megasite". And a NO to the Great Meadows Megasite. MEGADISASTER !
