Growing up in Mount Vernon, Illinois, I have seen firsthand the devastating impact of bullying on our youth. I have witnessed how bullying can lead to severe depression and even suicidal thoughts. These aren't just statistics or stories we read about—they are realities affecting our children, friends, and community daily.

Bullying in MTV is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 1 in 5 reports being bullied. Yet, many teenagers do not feel safe or supported enough to report it, fearing being bullied or assaulted again. It is important that we create an environment where every student feels safe and heard.

We must create an easy/anonymous  way for reporting in our schools. Every child should have the confidence that reporting bullying or any kind of abuse will lead to action and support, not ridicule or neglect. 

Lets create open communication between students, teachers, and parents. Free seminars can help raise awareness about the signs and consequences of bullying, encouraging a collective effort to combat it.

We urge the Mount Vernon School District and local government officials to prioritize these measures and ensure that our schools are a safe haven for all children. Let's protect our youth from the emotional and psychological damage that bullying inflicts by creating actionable policies and support systems.
