Thanks to all of you that signed our petition, which was presented to the Dacorum planning committee. Having been refused planning, the developer has appealed the decision and a public enquiry starts on 15th October. It will be one of the first to test the recent change in policy relating to building on Green Belt. If we cannot defend this unique and characterful part of Hemel Hempstead, a precedent will be set which will impact many other areas, including the wider Gade Valley.
Why save this land from development of almost 400 houses; archaeological interest, landscape character, adjacent wildlife site, rare chalk stream and conversation area.
Several local community groups have joined together with the Friends of Halsey and CPRE Hertfordshire, the countryside charity to oppose the development. We need to raise £30k for the enquiry, so far we have almost £13k, with the coalition having donated £3k. The money is to cover legal fees, expert witnesses and specialist advice. We must ensure we are well funded and defended as the developers will be spending much more to overturn the previous decision.
