The Issue

@fyldecouncil Once a place of picturesque fields and serene countryside, our town is now facing the threat of overdevelopment. Concrete structures are taking over the lush landscapes, bringing not just traffic and noise, but also significant environmental repercussions. This relentless construction spree is not just stripping away our town's natural beauty, but it is also pushing our local wildlife into near extinction.

Now they want to build another 128 dwellings south of Mowbreck Lane!

The unbridled development is a blatant disregard of our collective responsibility to protect the environment. With every tree felled and every plot cemented, we are inching closer to a future we will regret. The increased carbon emissions from these new buildings, the loss of green cover, and the compromising of our town's natural rainwater drainage systems significantly contribute to climate change.

Consider the wildlife displaced by this construction—the deer, foxes, and countless birds that once found sanctuary here. Their habitats are being destroyed, and their survival is in jeopardy.

Moreover, these developments put additional pressure on our local resources. With water shortages already looming as a global threat, increasing the town's population with new builds will only worsen the situation. Public services such as waste management, education, and healthcare could become strained, affecting our entire community.

We propose a moratorium on new construction projects and a reevaluation of the town's development plan to ensure it aligns with sustainable practices and retains our town's charm and character. By investing in redevelopment and renovation of existing structures, we can accommodate growth without unnecessary destruction.

Let us prioritize smart growth and sustainable practices that celebrate and preserve our natural surroundings, ensuring a better quality of life for all residents both now and in the future.

We urge town planners and local government officials to listen to the voices of the residents and make the right choice for our environment and community. Join us in our fight to protect our town from needless and harmful expansion. Please sign this petition to halt further construction projects in our town and foster a renewed commitment to sustainability.
