I am writing as a concerned Loudoun County citizen to urge the Board of Supervisors to immediately stop allowing new centers to be built in our county. This includes denying the proposed Spring Valley Technology Park data center campus along Evergreen Mills Road.

At more than 3 million square feet, the Spring Valley proposal would be another massive expansion of data center development into an area near many homes. Residents value this area for its natural character and residential appeal, which will be destroyed by this data center development.

Loudoun County already has the largest concentration of data centers in the United States, and perhaps the world, with roughly 44–53 million square feet of existing or under-development facilities, and another 61.5 million square feet proposed or in the development pipeline. Loudoun has already carried more than its burden of this industry, and data centers’ unchecked expansion in our county does not reflect balanced growth.

There are numerous long-term harms to county residents and the environment, including excessive consumption of electricity and water, potential health issues, traffic, noise, viewsheds, wildlife harm, property value declines, and pollution.

The Board of Supervisors has an important responsibility to protect the health, character, and quality of life of Loudoun's communities. The concerned citizens of Loudoun County signing this petition respectfully ask you to stop allowing new data centers to be built in our county and deny the Spring Valley proposal.
