The statistics are alarming and paint a grim picture of the future if we do not act. In the first half of this year alone, 209,000 dogs have been euthanized. The numbers are stark, but they represent real lives lost—not just statistics. This tragedy could be mitigated if breeders took the time to consider not just their profits but the well-being of the animals and the long-term consequences of their acts.

The root problem lies in the rapid increase of breeders aiming only to maximize their incomes without a thought for where these dogs will ultimately end up. We propose a mandatory moratorium on dog breeding for a specified period. This pause will allow shelters to find homes for dogs currently in dire situations, reducing the need for euthanasia.
