The Issue

Let Bandit Come Home: End the Unfair Breed/Size Restriction at Kensington Place.

My dog got out of the house recently and, being the curious and energetic dog that he is, he simply barked at a neighbor. This incident has, unfortunately, led to unfounded concerns about his nature. However, he has never shown aggression or harmed anyone. In fact, he is gentle with my two-year-old child, who often stands and plays with him. He lets our small cat Scarlett beat him up. He is very friendly once he gets a chance to sniff and understand his surroundings.

We unfortunately now have to get rid of him and I would like to be able to bring him home.

This experience has opened my eyes to the widespread discrimination that Pitt and German Shepherd breeds face, simply because of misconceptions. These breeds are often misunderstood, leading to unfair treatment and restrictive housing policies. It's heartbreaking to think that loving family pets, who have never shown any signs of aggression, might be unjustly taken away from their homes.

In many regions, including our own community, these breeds encounter undue prejudice. The stereotypical portrayal of them as aggressive dogs has fostered fear and misunderstanding. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, behavior in individual dogs is more strongly determined by owner care, training, and socialization rather than their breed. Furthermore, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that more effective reduction of serious dog bites is achievable through targeted preventative measures, focusing on individual dogs' behavior and responsible citizenship rather than stereotype-driven policies.

Given the evidence, it’s clear that addressing aggressive behavior in dogs necessitates responsible ownership, adequate training, and socializing, rather than punitive measures against specific breeds. By lifting breed-specific bans, we can focus our resources and energies on promoting responsible pet ownership.

We must come together as a community to demand fair treatment for all dogs, regardless of breed. Let us erase the stigmatization of Pitt and German Shepherds and make decisions based on facts and individual assessments.

Please sign this petition to stop breed discrimination and allow these gentle giants the freedom to stay in loving and caring homes, unleashing their true potential as loyal companions. Your signature can help bring an end to unfair stereotypes and promote community harmony, safety, and understanding. Together, we can protect our beloved pets.
