Significant zoning changes occurred AFTER Nov. 5, 2024

Bothell Staff and City Council have celebrated widespread public engagement opportunities around the Comp Plan in 2023/24. In fact at the Nov. 26 Council meeting, Staff and Council made a public point to celebrate that "around 100 people" had been engaged in the process over the spring and summer. But those citizens engaged in a very different zoning plan.  

On Nov. 18th, 2024, the Comp Plan changed. On the 19th, well over 100 citizens showed up in Council Chambers, possibly another 50-100 spilled out into the City Hall Foyer, and many more online. 

48 people spoke that night and 40 more sent written comments on the Zoning issue in the Comp Plan. The overwhelming number of comments were against the new Zoning. Council member Mahnkey remarked that this was the largest public gathering to comment at City Hall in his 3-year tenure on City Council. 

As of this writing there also are more than 216 petition signers asking Council to delay the vote and increase public engagement on this issue. This list is growing by about 100 per day. 

That means there are now more than THREE TIMES as many citizens engaged in this issue since the zoning changes were published Nov. 18. If you count those who have shown up but not spoken, that multiple is even higher.
