As some of you know from my last update, I found out, after I created this petition, that e-petitions are not accepted in the House of Commons unless they are created on their own website. Yup. I was deeply disappointed, frustrated, and feeling badly for those of you who have signed my petition.

There is good news, however. 

Two complete strangers contacted me to ask if they could help. YES!! Suzanne Biggs,  Matthew Jones and I have been working together to get through all the red tape (and there is a lot!) and create a new petition against Bill C-2 that would be acceptable to the government. (Actually, Suzanne and Matthew did the lion's share of the work as I have so much on my plate. I am so grateful to them both.)

So now, after going through all the official hoops, we are just waiting until the petition is live on their website. I am hopeful that you will all be willing to sign it once it's up and running. We need at least 500 signatures before it can be presented in the House. 

NDP MP Jenny Kwan is our sponsor as she is already fighting this bill. The more people who speak up against this bill, the more clout she will have. Every one of us is needed!

I am an Elbows Up organizer and sometimes Elbows Up means keeping our own politicians accountable so that Trumpism doesn't seep into our country. We cannot let that happen. I, too, am disappointed and deeply concerned to see this bill slip through as I heard a lot of tough words from Mark Carney in his campaign speeches, which I am not hearing now.

I understand that dealing with Trump is a volatile situation, which is why Carney is behind the scenes creating new deals and alliances with the EU. And in dealing with the narcissistic, dangerous toddler, he has to find ways to keep him occupied, distracted, and appeased, temporarily, so he can secure alternative and reliable partners, in the hopes of making us less reliant on the US. I get how incredibly complex and difficult a position Carney is in. 

However, this bill is not a solution. If anything, this bill is about Canada becoming more 'Trump-like'. And that is dangerous and unacceptable.
