Stop Bill 7 the Economic Stabilization (Tariff Response) Act of 2025

Stop Bill 7 the Economic Stabilization (Tariff Response) Act of 2025
The Issue
To the Government and Members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia:
Demand the Withdrawal of Bill 7 – Economic Stabilization (Tariff Response) Act
The petition of the undersigned residents of British Columbia and other concerned citizens of Canada and the World states:
Whereas Bill 7, the Economic Stabilization (Tariff Response) Act, grants the government extensive powers to override existing legislation, thereby creating uncertainty and potential for misuse of these powers, similar to previous instances of emergency power abuses;
Whereas the provisions within Bill 7 allowing for the collection and disclosure of personal information constitutes a direct violation of Charter Rights and Freedoms. Additionally, the bill poses significant risks to local businesses and communities, proceeding without mandatory consultation or engagement and can establish tolls on users in the Province among other restrictions.
Therefore, we urgently request that the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia:
- Immediately withdraw Bill 7, recognizing that the powers it seeks to grant are unnecessary and represent an overreach of the democratic process and could destabilize the democratic governance of the province.
- Introduce mandatory legislation on Transparency and Accountability that ensures our Constitutional Rights and Freedoms are respected in all Provincial legislation. This legislation would stop the creation of unnecessary overreaching emergency legislation!
