As a small family farm in Anne Arundel County, we are deeply concerned about the impact that Bill 61-26 will have on countless small businesses, employees, and visitors across our county.

Bill 61-26 is currently being pushed through without adequate public consultation, and its implications for small businesses have not been thoroughly assessed. The proposed regulations are extensive and burdensome, threatening the sustainability of many local enterprises.

Without a fair chance to adapt to these changes or even voice our concerns, we are unable to participate, understand, or ask questions about the implications of the future zoning code of Anne Arundel County.   The Zoning Code determines how properties may or may not be used in Anne Arundel County and citizens, employees, and business owners need to understand what their rights are and how the changes could impact the businesses that have been operating for decades.  Anne Arundel County prides itself on its vibrant community of small businesses that contribute significantly to the local economy.

We request that our elected officials listen to the voices of the people they represent, engage in meaningful dialogue with those affected, and postpone the passing of this bill until after the upcoming election. This will provide enough time for debate, amendments, and the consideration of alternative measures that could support both the objectives of the bill and the sustainability of small businesses.

We, the community of Anne Arundel County, deserve a chance to be heard. Let’s protect our local economy and the small businesses that are its backbone.
