Chicago’s infrastructure has been updated in recent years to accommodate more bicycle commuters riding on busy city streets. However, the city’s infrastructure updates haven’t addressed bicycle theft. Commuters should not only feel safe riding their bicycle on city streets, but they should also feel safe leaving their bicycle locked up. Bicycle thieves are getting smarter using advanced technology and tools to steal bicycles knowing that the city’s police are overwhelmed with crime and that the punishments for these crimes are minimal. The city of Chicago needs to grant communities with safe bicycle lockers in areas where commuters use their bicycles to get to work. No one deserves to have their bicycle stolen while they’re at work!

Let’s start by signing this petition to get a safe bicycle locker room in Chicago’s River North area so commuters have a safe place to keep their bicycles. If we don’t act now, bicycle theft will continue to increase deterring people from commuting by bicycle.
