Big lick is a barbaric act of animal abuse. This form of abuse makes horses suffer for doing nothing wrong and the worst part about it is that they just do it for pure pleasure in the show ring. I've always loved horses ever since I was little and it makes me sick to see what people do to these amazing, beautiful animals. If it weren't for horses I can't even imagine what my life would be like right now, so please sign this petition to try to end this.

Soring is the unethical and illegal1 practice of deliberately inflicting pain to exaggerate the leg motion of horses to gain an unfair advantage in the show ring. The chest-high stride achieved by soring is known in the industry as the "big lick". 

Soring is done by irritating or blistering the horse's forelegs through the injection or application of chemical irritants or painful mechanical devices.2

The “big lick” can only be produced by inducing pain: trainers apply caustic chemicals such as diesel fuel, kerosene, mustard oil, and Croton oil to the pasterns of the horse. Abusers place large stacked-up shoes as tall as six to eight inches high, and ankle chains on the feet to exacerbate the pain.
