Stop (Biden-era) DOD downgrade of General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, FLW, MO
The Issue
We need every Veteran supporter to help fight Defense Health Agency (DHA) and the former Biden DoD, for ceasing completion of the new General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, which was set to open by 2025. The current 50+ year old hospital would be demolished and replaced by a larger parking lot. Now, Service Members, Retirees, trainees, family members, and local communities will be severely impacted if our hospital is downsized to clinical care. This change will remove advanced medical technology and specialty care services.
If General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital is downsized, specialty medical care availability poses a threat for many patients seeking treatment. The most challenging will be the distance to a fully functional hospital for emergencies, obstetrics, or severe health problems. For most patients, the nearest hospital may take 1-2 hours without any traffic congestion or detours. Most routes are traveled via two lane country roads of over 60 miles. Secondly, weather in Missouri is very unpredictable, especially during the winter months. Many of these roads are seldom maintained due to local road service priorities such as, interstates, highways and cities.
Please understand, millions of dollars have been invested into the hospital construction, which again, is almost ready to service greater than the old hospital. We need this hospital to provide advanced medical services, especially those specialty care clinics (cardiac, neurologic, behavioral, etc). Department of Defense and Defense Health Agency always place Veteran needs last.
This action, as well as other unsatisfactory treatments to Veterans are why we have a high rate of suicides (22 daily), loneliness and homelessness.
Now that we have a new administration in place, there’s hope for undoing the careless and wasteful practices.
