Stop Biased Reporting by Media Outlets

The issue

We are deeply concerned about biased reporting by media outlets like Murdoch Media Australia, which we believe has a negative impact on public discourse and undermines the principles of democracy.

We call on the Australian government to take action to address these concerns by:

  1. Strengthening media ownership laws to ensure that no one company or individual has too much control over the media landscape.
  2. Enhancing the powers of media regulators like the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and the Australian Press Council to investigate complaints about biased reporting and issue sanctions against media outlets that breach relevant codes of conduct.
  3. Providing funding or other support for independent media organisations that are committed to producing high-quality journalism that is free from political bias.
  4. Promoting media literacy that help citizens to better understand how the media works, how to critically evaluate news stories, and how to distinguish between news and opinion pieces.

We believe that these measures are necessary to ensure that the media in Australia is fair, balanced, and transparent, and that citizens have access to accurate and unbiased information that is essential for making informed decisions.
