Stop Biased Narratives in Shen Schools

Stop Biased Narratives in Shen Schools

The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on Shenendehowa Central School District Administration to uphold the principles of equity, inclusion, and intellectual freedom by ensuring that:

1. Palestinian and Muslim voices are actively included in classroom discussions, curriculum, and school events — especially when addressing topics that directly relate to their identity, history, or current events.

We often hear only one side of these issues in the classroom. This is unacceptable in an educational environment that claims to value truth and inclusion.

2. Criticism of Israeli government policies is not equated with antisemitism, and students are not discouraged or silenced for criticizing Israel.

3. Students are not discouraged from criticizing America, and such criticism must not be labeled as unpatriotic.

Democracy is meant to give power to the people. When it falls short, it is not just our right — it is our duty — to speak out and fix it.

We believe our classrooms should reflect a commitment to truth, justice, and diverse perspectives, not censorship or selective representation. We call on Shen Admin to create an environment where all students are free to speak, learn, and be heard.

Sincerely,
Shaista Maqbool
