The Issue

Granite School District families and community members care deeply about our students’ well-being, the stability of our schools, financial accountability, safety, and trust in leadership. Since the appointment of Ben Horsley as Superintendent, many parents and community members have lost confidence in the district’s ability to provide transparency, accountability, and trustworthy leadership.

Multiple news reports and community accounts have raised serious concerns:

  • A lack of transparency in the superintendent selection process.
  • Mismanagement of resources, including COVID relief funds, costly lawsuits, and settlements.
  • A major data breach that compromised student and family privacy.
  • School closures carried out with little meaningful community input.
  • No K-12 classroom teaching experience, raising doubts about decision-making that directly impacts teachers and students.
  • Cuts to Special Education support, including eliminating full-time paraeducators.
  • Silencing of educators who attempt to voice grievances at public meetings.

Who is impacted most? Our children—and their future.

Call to Action
We, the undersigned, demand that the Granite School District Board:

  1. Re-evaluate the superintendent appointment in light of these concerns.
  2. Commission an independent review of district leadership, spending practices, and decision-making.
  3. Commit to a transparent superintendent selection process that includes full community involvement moving forward.

Our children deserve leadership that is transparent, accountable, and experienced. We call on the Granite School District Board to listen to parents, educators, and students, and take immediate action to restore trust in our schools.
