Stop BC RCMP abuse of BC's criminal prosecution policies
The Issue

Read article for full explanation of how BC RCMP exploit current criminal prosecution policies.
It's time we update policies that place justice at the forefront and face uncomfortable truths of how BC RCMP's lack of accountability corrupts our criminal prosecution process. Let's use criminal prosecution for its intended purpose to hold criminals to account for their actions.
To ensure a fair and just criminal prosecution process for all, we ask you to sign this petition.
We, the undersigned, are calling for four (4) specific changes in criminal prosecution related policies:
1. An immediate revision to the Legal Aid BC policy, making it mandatory to offer a full defence contract to every individual accused with financial need, irrespective of the sentence proposed by the assigned prosecutor.
- Exploitative case #'s drop like a lead balloon --
may not cost a $ extra. - Benefits: court efficiency, process effectiveness, filtering of evidence, reduced prosecutor time.
- Accused less vulnerable to repeated Charter violations.
2. An amendment to the Crown Counsel Policy manual, mandating withdrawal for all approved charges that fail to meet the sufficient evidence criteria in successive, periodic review of the case evidence.
- Less damaging to accused
- Highlights police didn't do their job properly
3. A redraft of the Crown Counsel charge approval criteria to rely on substantive (concrete) evidence, requiring more than a BC RCMP officer's assurances of 'belief'.
- Make police do their job of investigation
- Don't just assume they did.
4. The Solicitor General to implement a single, transparent, comprehensive governance and accountability structure, binding on all BC police forces operating in BC.
Solicitor General changes are a longer term project. These changes to Attorney General policies will act as fail-safes, until that project is complete.
So join us.
Demand change to BC's Attorney General and Legal Aid policies to uphold justice. Sign this petition and make a difference today.
