Stop banks from profiting from tragedy

Stop banks from profiting from tragedy
The Issue
Banks and other financial institutions should not profit from tragedy, but they do. As people donate on-line to help victims of wildfires in the Los Angeles area, institutions like Citibank, Chase, Capitol One, Wells Fargo and Paypal are raking in processing fees while people suffer.
Thousands of people have lost their homes due to the wildfires. Some people have lost everything. Help is needed to provide emergency shelter, meals, toiletries, even a change of clothes. The animal shelters are full and have many injured animals. People will need help rebuilding their homes and their lives.
Large and small charitable institutions are stepping up, but they need help. Similarly, individuals are stepping up to donate. However, if donations are made on-line, fees from banks and other financial institutions can chew up a significant portion of the donation. For example, out of a $100 donation to the Pasadena Humane Society, $5.80 goes to processing.
Tell the big banks and on-line processors to waive all fees on donations to bona fide charities during natural disasters. Better yet, tell them to waive all fees for charitable donations.
