Stop Parks Canada from killing animals after conflicts
The Issue
Please contact Banff Wardens and ask them to spare the bears! 1-403-762-1470 1-888-927-3367 Recently, a couple was killed by a grizzly bear in Banff. This tragedy is complicated by revenge against the bear. In the fall, bears look for food. Some people feed them, and can get injured and even killed. When people are injured or killed by animals, the conflict is almost always caused by humans feeding the animals, by leaving attractants, or by invading the animal’s space. When people negatively encounter wildlife in national parks, the animals are killed. Sometimes a whole group of animals are killed to try to get the “culprit”. Babies can be orphaned, and the orphans are usually killed. Killing the animals does not remove the threat, as the real problem is attractants and habitat loss. We would like Parks Canada to stop killing animals in response to “animal attacks”, and instead use humane methods like temporary closing, prevention, education, hazing, controlled feeding stations in a safe area managed by staff, and relocation if necessary. We would also like Parks Canada to stop turning the parks into amusement parks and instead ban development in them and keep them natural and wild for the animals. #SpareTheBears
