Stop Ball Aerocan - Pollution in Devizes

1,136

The Issue

Large US based Ball Aerocan, a company manufacturing aluminium aerosol cans in Devizes UK, has extended it’s intense manufacturing operations without obtaining necessary planning consents. The new high intensity manufacturing processes located on the boundary with Folly Rd, are already having a detrimental impact on the nearby residential properties. Manufacturing lines now operate simultaneously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Local residents are deeply concerned by significant noise, air quality and light pollution.

Support this petition for the unauthorised development to be dismantled and/or operations to be stopped until all pollution can be accurately measured and mitigated!

AIR QUALITY

  • Harmful emissions increased and new industrial infrastructure moved very close to residential areas.
  • Assessment on the fall and dispersal of toxic particulates drifting on the surrounding area remains unmeasured.
  • Site near popular children's nursery and forest school
  • Site just meters from homes
  • Inhaling the emissions leaves an acrid taste and you experience a shortness of breath.
  • The Air Quality Management Area has a concentration of 200 micrograms of Nitric Oxide and must not be exceeded more than 18 times a year. The added loading potentially puts this at risk.

NOISE

  • Noise has only been measured in November 2022 and nothing monitored since, in particular, the illegal erection of the Chipping Extract plant on the Folly Rd boundary
  • Gazette and Herald news: ball-aerocan-factory-causing-noise-pollution-wiltshire
  • “Another night of terrible impact on our family life - children not being able to sleep with constant noise (and getting worse)”
  • “The level of noise coming from Ball Aerocan is a nuisance. Both day and especially at night when if wanting to open a window for fresh air is not an option because of the constant droning. Even when the windows are closed the noise is still audible making sleep very disrupted.”
  • “The level of noise coming from the factory is awful. It’s 24/7. We cannot enjoy the garden or have the windows open due to the constant humming. We have made numerous complaints to no avail.”
