Stop Bail Reforms for Felony Animal Abuse Cases Now

The Issue

As a lover of animals I worry about the welfare of our innocent pets, it is disheartening to witness the surge in animal abuse cases. Too many animals are tortured, abused, and killed every year senselessly. Tragically, some are victims within their own homes, used as bait animals or simply mistreated by abusive owners. We are meant to protect these pets, not stand silently by as they suffer at the hands of those who should care for them.

The crux of this petition is the disturbing fact that current bail reform systems too often allow those accused of felony animal abuse to go free. This is intolerable. According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, animal cruelty is a predictor of violence towards people. As per Federal Bureau of Investigation data, of the 1,200 convicted murderers they studied, 36% had tortured animals as children, and 46% had done so as adolescents. These numbers are way too troubling to be ignored.

We can no longer tolerate a system that frees potential repeat offenders without instituting more stringent penalties and deterrents. Our society must address the root of this violent disconnect and work towards more effective measures that would ensure the protection of our cherished pets.

We demand a reevaluation and halt of bail reforms regarding felony animal abuse cases. We seek the establishment of more secure safeguards that protect animals and refuse bail to those who do cruel harm. Let us stand united to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Please, sign this petition and make a difference in the lives of countless innocent animals. Your signature is a step forward in giving a voice to these animals and preventing further harm.
